Aimee Lou Wood on Battling Body Dysmorphia During The White Lotus Filming
Actress Aimee Lou Wood shared that she struggled with body dysmorphia while filming bikini scenes as Chelsea in season three of the Emmy-nominated HBO series The White Lotus. At 31, she spoke openly to Harper’s Bazaar about how portraying her character affected her self-image.
“I shook myself out of it by thinking, ‘It’s not about whether Aimee wants to show her body or not – Chelsea does.’”
According to Wood, Chelsea’s optimistic and spiritual approach to life inspired her to channel confidence despite her internal doubts. She admitted that the boundary between herself and her character gradually became less distinct.
“The line between me and her started to blur.”
The actress added that she had been warned her life would change dramatically as the acclaimed American series placed her in the spotlight. Her work increasingly required trips to Los Angeles for press and professional events.
“I find LA emotionally bulimic, and I say that as an ex-bulimic. It is this super-sized adventure where everyone’s talking about you all the time and you have to talk about yourself all the time.”
