Jasmine Crockett, a Democratic congresswoman from Texas, revealed in a recent interview that she is seriously considering a Senate run. Speaking with Dasha Burns on Politico's “The Conversation,” Crockett emphasized her data-driven approach to the decision.
“I’m seriously weighing it to the extent that I’m about to spend a lot of money to get data. So I’m a data-driven person. I will tell you that I personally believe that Texas needs to do something different if they wanted different results. That’s just the bottom line.”
No Democrat has won a Senate election in Texas since 1988. The current Senator, John Cornyn, is seeking reelection next year for a fifth term.
Crockett explained that her campaign decision will be made late in the race, highlighting the importance of not just winning the Democratic primary but also succeeding in the general election.
“I’mma be flat-out with you and tell you that I don’t think that there’s a Democrat that can take out Cornyn.”
She also claimed that the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) is investing heavily in Cornyn’s primary campaign to secure his victory. However, The National News Desk could not verify this claim, and the NRSC did not respond to inquiries about its spending by publication time.
Jasmine Crockett remains cautious and data-centered as she contemplates entering a challenging Senate race in Texas.
