Remembrance Day Events in Niagara-on-the-Lake

As Remembrance Day approaches, Canadians are preparing to honour soldiers who have fought and continue to serve to protect the country and its people, from the First World War and Second World War through to the present day.

Poppy Displays and Distribution

Businesses across Niagara-on-the-Lake are participating by offering poppies, which residents wear proudly on jackets and shirts. Poppy displays can be seen throughout the community at locations such as the Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum, the Historic Court House, the RiverBrink Art Museum, and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 124 on King Street.

“The legion’s poppy drive runs from Oct. 11, with members collecting donations and distributing poppies on the streets. We accept donations at that time for our poppy trust fund to support veterans and their families.” — Al Howse, president of the legion

The museum’s poppy drive started in October, and staff have placed 75 poppy wreaths throughout the heritage district. According to Al Howse, president of the legion, members have been busy preparing for the commemorations. Poppies are available in around 200 local businesses, with thousands already distributed.
