Alberta Conservative MP Matt Jeneroux Resigns Amid Party Speculation

Conservative MP Matt Jeneroux has announced his resignation from the House of Commons, ending his tenure as the representative for Edmonton–Riverbend. His announcement, shared Thursday on social media, followed public speculation about his political direction just days after another Conservative MP made headlines for switching parties.

“I ran in the last election hopeful that Canadians would put their faith in a team led by Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives,” reads the letter.

Jeneroux noted that while the election did not result as he had expected, he holds deep respect for colleagues across the political spectrum.

“Although the outcome was not what I anticipated, I have great admiration for the many remarkable individuals who were elected to the House of Commons on both sides of the aisle.”

He added that his attention now must shift toward his family and personal responsibilities. The letter did not clarify the exact timing of his departure, though a response from Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre hinted that Jeneroux may continue serving into 2026.

“On behalf of our Conservative team, I wish you and your family all the best following your decision to step down as MP next spring,” wrote Poilievre.

Jeneroux, who began representing Edmonton–Riverbend in 2015, has previously held several shadow cabinet roles, including positions related to health, housing, and infrastructure.
