Jackson Blake and Sean Walker each recorded a goal and an assist as the Carolina Hurricanes edged the Minnesota Wild 4–3 on Thursday at Lenovo Center in Raleigh, North Carolina. Andrei Svechnikov and Nikolaj Ehlers also scored for Carolina, while Frederik Andersen stopped 21 shots. With this result, the Hurricanes improved to 9–4–0 and extended their winning streak to two games, taking three victories from their last four.
“Blake is probably the one who needs the most credit for tonight,” Carolina coach Rod Brind’Amour said. “The one goal was all him, and the other was just a great pass.”
Matt Boldy led the Wild with two goals, marking his 300th NHL appearance, as Minnesota (5–7–3) saw its two-game win streak come to an end. Filip Gustavsson finished with 23 saves in net.
“They’re a high-pressure team. There were times I thought we handled it well, and there were times when there was another good team on the ice too,” Minnesota coach John Hynes noted. “We got some looks in different segments of the game.”
Boldy struck first at 5:34 of the opening period after Hurricanes forward Mark Jankowski unintentionally pushed the puck toward his own net, allowing Boldy to finish the loose puck from the slot. Moments later, the teams erupted for three quick goals within a dazzling 52-second stretch during a 4-on-4 exchange that highlighted the pace of the contest.
The Hurricanes defeated the Wild 4–3 in Raleigh, with Blake shining as a standout performer and Boldy scoring twice for Minnesota in his 300th NHL game.
