Mel Tracina dishes on the new Big Brother housemates, whether she’d host the TV WEEK Logies and her worst red carpet moment

Mel Tracina on Hosting the New Big Brother Australia

Mel Tracina is leaving her life in Melbourne to pursue her dream job on the Gold Coast, where she will host the much-anticipated return of Big Brother Australia. The 36-year-old Nova presenter and cultural correspondent from The Cheap Seats is thrilled to be part of the revival of one of Australia’s most iconic reality shows.

“I’m feeling as excited as every other OG fan,” she says with a laugh. “There’s that moment where I have to remind myself that I don’t get to sit at home and watch it – I’m working!”

Mel fondly recalls the early seasons of Big Brother, where the round-the-clock live filming and spontaneous interactions gave birth to unforgettable moments that captivated Australia. She hopes the new season will recapture that same natural charm and spontaneity.

“It just takes somebody being organic,” Mel says when reflecting on Sara-Marie Fedele’s famous bum dance. “At the time, you didn’t know it would become a part of Aussie culture, like the saying: ‘Game on, moles.’ That authenticity is what we latch onto.”

She also reminisces about the romances that blossomed in the original series, when housemates spent extended time together under one roof.

“I loved the love stories,” she reminisces.
