Chugach Electric Approves 10-MW Beluga Solar Project
Chugach Electric Association has approved the development of a 10-MW solar array on 80 acres next to its power station at Beluga.
The board of directors voted unanimously to approve a $26.4 million investment for the state’s largest solar array yet.
- Location: next to the utility’s 312-MW gas-fired power station at Beluga, near Tyonek
- Estimated cost to ratepayers: $16.4 million if federal Investment Tax Credits apply
- Power generation cost: approximately $89/MWh, comparable to gas-powered electricity
The project would generate power for approximately $89/MWh, comparable to the anticipated cost of gas-powered electricity.
