Portland to Resume Public Camping Ordinance Enforcement

Starting this Saturday, Portland will enforce its homeless camping ban once again.

Individuals who refuse access to reasonable alternative shelter or violate specific camping rules may face fines or jail time.

No one will be arrested simply for camping, nor should they. However, we will arrest those who have open warrants or who have broken the law in ways that prey on our community.

The city has expanded shelter capacity, adding over 1,000 overnight beds this year, in addition to the existing 700 beds.

Police will cite people who block sidewalks, set fires, dump trash, or harm people or the environment.

Author's summary: Portland enforces camping ban with expanded shelter capacity.
