Eastpointe Military Museum building turns 70

A history of the Military Museum property on Stephens Road will be presented on Nov. 9, showing its transition from ice rink to teen center to temporary City Hall to museum.

The property, where the Michigan Military Technical and Historical Society Museum now stands, was once the neighborhood ice rink.

It was called Shakespeare’s Field and it did not even have an address
, said Wendy Richardson, Military Museum CFO.

Richardson noted that the ice rink remained until tennis courts were added around 1970. The building, initially constructed as a teen center after World War II, now houses the Military Museum and celebrates its 70th anniversary this year.

Richardson will make a presentation, From Teen Center to Military Museum, The Story of our Building, at 2 p.m.

Author's summary: Eastpointe Military Museum marks 70 years.
