Rail minister Lord Hendy visited Britain's newest station, Beaulieu Park in north Chelmsford, after it opened to passengers. The station was built with £141 million from the Government's Housing Infrastructure Fund, £12 million from the South-East Local Enterprise Partnership, and £22 million from the developers of Beaulieu.
The three-platform station features 705 parking spaces, a public transport interchange, and over 500 cycle spaces. The first train to call was the 07.20 to London Liverpool Street, with up to four trains per hour during peak times. The station is operated by Greater Anglia, which was nationalised earlier this month.
