A new scientific review reveals that the Arctic is experiencing unprecedented warming, leading to frequent and intense climate extremes.
According to the review, published in Nature Reviews Earth & Environment, events such as massive heat waves and record ice melt, once considered rare, are now becoming routine.
- Since around 2000, weather and climate extremes have increased in frequency and intensity across the region.
- A record amount of Greenland's ice sheet melted in the summer of 2017, with 19 billion tons more than the previous high mark at that time.
