Salt Lake City and Portland Compete for MLB Expansion Team
Major League Baseball's potential expansion has sparked debates among sports analysts, with many theorizing that one team will be added in the east and one in the west.
Salt Lake City is vying for the western team, but faces competition from Portland, Oregon.
“For me, it’s Salt Lake City and Portland,”said John Canzano, a sports journalist and radio show host in Oregon, who added that he believes both cities are
“underserved markets”.
Canzano would like to see Major League Baseball come to Portland, but acknowledges that Salt Lake City might have an edge.
“If this is a marathon, and it feels like one to me, Salt Lake City is ahead,”he said.
According to Canzano and others, Salt Lake City's biggest advantage is its ownership group, The Larry H. Miller Group.
