For over 75 years, Frog Alley in Kingston has been devoid of its namesake creatures. The area was once a flood-prone slum neighborhood along the Esopus Creek, which was demolished and converted into swampland below Peter Stuyvesant's 1658 stockade.
The frogs had adapted to the area's conditions for the first three centuries of Kingston's white settlement. However, the construction of Schwenk Drive, which led to their departure, is now undergoing changes itself.
The one-block-long alley, starting from Schwenk Drive and ending on North Front Street, hosts these six uses, with an attractive small park adding to its charm.
