Concerns over Inhumane Treatment during Deportations

A Nigerian man described being awakened in the middle of the night in September, along with other detainees, by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers.

The officers placed shackles on their hands and feet and informed them they were being sent to Ghana, despite none of them being from there. When they requested to speak to their attorney, the officers refused and used full-body restraint suits called the WRAP, also referred to as "the burrito" or "the bag".

"It was just like a kidnapping,"

The Nigerian man, who is part of a federal lawsuit, said in an interview with The Associated Press from a detainment camp in Ghana, where he and other deportees were being held after a 16-hour flight.
