Vermont Republican State Senator Faces Calls to Resign
A Vermont Republican state senator is facing pressure to resign after a leaked group chat revealed racist and antisemitic language used by him and his wife.
Gov. Phil Scott called on Senator Samuel Douglass to resign, stating:
The hateful statements made in this group chat are disgusting and unacceptable.
- Douglass, 27, was part of a historic red wave in November, helping the GOP pick up six seats in the Vermont Senate.
- Last week, he was nominated for “Legislator of the Year” at the Vermont GOP’s Awards Night.
