State and local leaders gathered at the Pittsburgh International Airport to celebrate the new terminal with a ceremonial ribbon cutting on Saturday, October 11.
The project began in 2015 when the Allegheny County Airport Authority hired CEO Christina Cassotis, and construction started in October 2021.
“I know there are a lot of Pittsburghers who question why we need a new airport when they still refer to the current one as the new airport,”
said Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato, calling the new terminal the region’s front door and a catalyst for the local economy and community.
The current terminal opened in October 1992.
