Pixar has unveiled the first glimpse of Toy Story 5, introducing a tech-savvy toy and teasing the next major adventure for the beloved franchise. The animated feature is set for release next summer and will be Pixar’s 31st film, following the blockbuster success of Inside Out 2 and Elio.
The teaser reveals a newcomer to the toy box — a smart tablet named Lilypad, voiced by Greta Lee, known for her roles in Past Lives and Tron: Ares. The trailer’s tagline hints at conflict between nostalgia and technology.
“The age of toys is over.”
This phrase signals a fresh challenge for Woody, Buzz, and friends as they face an all-new threat to playtime in a changing world.
The film is co-directed by Andrew Stanton, known for Finding Nemo and Wall-E, and McKenna Harris, making her directorial debut after years of work at Pixar. The directors describe the movie as having a “playfully antagonistic tone,” exploring how timeless toys adapt to a tech-driven era.
Announced in early 2023, Toy Story 5 continues a saga that has grossed over $3.3 billion worldwide. It will also be the first film in the series without the involvement of John Lasseter, who left Pixar in 2018.
Pixar’s Toy Story 5 promises a tech-versus-tradition adventure with familiar voices and fresh talent, blending humor and heart in a modern-day playtime clash.
