US-based defense technology company Anduril Industries has launched a new manufacturing facility in Sydney, Australia. The purpose-built site covers 7,400 sqm and is dedicated to producing the Ghost Shark, an extra-large autonomous underwater vehicle (XL-AUV).
The facility integrates advanced robotic manufacturing, AI-driven logistics, and a custom test tank for in-water checks of buoyancy, electrical systems, and safety before sea trials. The opening is expected to create more than 150 highly skilled jobs in the local economy.
This development follows the Royal Australian Navy’s $1.12 billion (A$1.7 billion) contract for a large fleet of Ghost Sharks, to be delivered over five years.
The site will also develop Dive-XL, the commercial baseline variant intended for export to allies and partners worldwide, pending Australian government approval.
“Don’t let policy changes catch you off guard.”
