A woman and a child died after falling into a waterway in southeast Melbourne. The tragic accident occurred at Dandenong Creek, near Allan Street in Dandenong, around 3:45 pm on Monday.
Police believe the mother struggled in the water after trying to save the child. Emergency services arrived quickly and found both unconscious. Despite CPR efforts, neither could be revived.
Both were declared dead at the scene.
The identities of the woman and child have not yet been confirmed. Authorities are preparing a report for the coroner.
