Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone are reportedly joining forces for their first collaborative project—a Muppets movie centered on the iconic character Miss Piggy.
Lawrence revealed the news during an appearance on the Las Culturistas podcast with Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang, sharing:
“I don't know if I can announce this, but I'm just going to. Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie.”
The screenplay will be written by Cole Escola, the Tony Award-winning writer and star of the Broadway show Oh, Mary! When asked if the actresses would star in the film, Lawrence laughed:
“I think so… We have to.”
Cole Escola is known for his television writing, contributing to series like The Other Two, At Home with Amy Sedaris, and Ziwe, although this will be his first theatrically released screenplay.
Miss Piggy is a central figure in the Muppets franchise, created by puppeteer Jim Henson and originally performed by Frank Oz. She is recognized for her glamorous style, diva personality, signature karate chops, and romantic pursuit of Kermit the Frog.
Fans of the franchise have long hoped for new adventures, and there is even a call for the Muppets to host prestigious events like the Oscars.
“I’m all for a new Muppets adventure. I’ve long campaigned for them to host the Oscars, and honestly, they deserve it.”
Summary: Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone are set to produce a Miss Piggy movie, marking their first collaboration and bringing a fresh take to the beloved Muppets franchise.
