From Learning to Earning: Investing in Skills in Tajikistan

In Tajikistan, where over half the population is under 25, the government is revolutionizing vocational education with support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Japan Fund for Information and Communication Technology (JFICT). Each year, around 240,000 young people enter the labor market, eager to contribute to the economy but often lacking the skills demanded by employers.

To address this, six state-of-the-art vocational training centers have been established. These centers equip youth and adults with hands-on skills in fields such as agriculture, green energy, information and communication technology (ICT), and tourism.

This effort is a strategic investment in human potential that enhances economic resilience and promotes social equity in Tajikistan.

"Modern job centers equip people with market-ready skills, boosting jobs and resilience."
"This initiative represents a high-impact investment in human potential, economic resilience, and social equity—one that is already changing lives."

The government’s modernization of vocational education, with ADB and JFICT cofinancing, is essential to prepare the youth for a dynamic economy and sustainable growth.
