Following two missed field goals during Sunday’s win over the New Orleans Saints, the Los Angeles Rams are preparing significant changes to their special teams. The team is poised to adjust at least one key position, possibly two.
Head coach Sean McVay announced that Mevis will compete against current kicker Joshua Karty for the starting job this week. McQuaide is expected to replace Alex Ward as the team's long snapper for the upcoming game against the San Francisco 49ers, pending successful practice sessions.
"Certainly, there’s a lot of layers to everything that’s gone on in that phase,” McVay said. “But those are two areas that those guys have done a lot of really good stuff for us but we want to be able to see a little bit more consistency in those areas. I think these guys will be here to be able to push them and then that allows us to be able to make a decision."
Jake McQuaide is no stranger to the Rams, having spent a decade with the team from 2011 to 2020 and earning Pro Bowl selections in 2016 and 2017. In 2024, he played for the Minnesota Vikings and Miami Dolphins.
Summary: The Rams are actively addressing inconsistencies in their field goal unit by adding experienced players to spark competition and improve reliability.
