RSL Victoria urges everyone to purchase a red poppy ahead of Remembrance Day. Monday, 11 November 2024, commemorates the anniversary of the Armistice that ended World War I fighting with Germany in 1918.
Each year, at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, millions pause to remember those who sacrificed their lives.
Services will take place in Ararat, Willaura, and Lake Bolac at 11 am to honor this solemn day.
The poppy, known as the Flower of Remembrance, was one of the first flowers to bloom on the northern France and Belgium battlefields after the war ended. Australia adopted it in 1921 as a symbol to honor the fallen and support the living.
“The poppy is known as the ‘Flower of Remembrance’, as they were among the first to flower in the battlefields of northern France and Belgium after the conflict ended.”
Remembrance Day poppies and badges are available outside Ritchies IGA, Woolworths, and Bendigo Bank.
They can also be purchased at Fosters Mensland, Deb’s Diner, the Mess and Barracks, Mitre-10, Growmaster Grampians, the Leopold Hotel, and Quick Cuts.
