The Sacramento Kings made changes to their lineup after a 2–5 start to the 2025–26 season, reportedly reaching an agreement with free agent forward Precious Achiuwa, according to ESPN insider Shams Charania.
To create a roster spot for Achiuwa, the Kings waived second-year center Isaac Jones. Jones was on a $1.96 million club option this season and was projected to become a restricted free agent next offseason, per Spotrac.
According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, releasing Jones results in a $191,043 cap hit and adds $214,151 to the team's luxury tax calculation. Before the transaction, Sacramento had $3.15 million in tax space, stood $7.6 million below the first apron, and $19.5 million under the second apron, according to Spotrac.
The Kings’ frontcourt depth has been strained early in the season due to Keegan Murray’s left thumb UCL tear. Murray underwent surgery last month, and the team stated his condition would be re-evaluated the following Monday at the earliest.
At 26, Achiuwa averaged 6.6 points and 5.6 rebounds in 57 games for the New York Knicks last season. His addition aims to strengthen Sacramento’s interior presence while Murray recovers.
“Sacramento had $3.15 million in tax space prior to Tuesday’s signing,” reported Spotrac.
Author’s summary: The Sacramento Kings adjusted their roster by signing Precious Achiuwa and releasing Isaac Jones, a move shaping both their cap situation and frontcourt depth amid injury challenges.
